Over the next 5 years, the region is forecasted to create approximately 16,200 net new jobs, with 3,400 of those jobs in Manufacturing.

Engineering may represent only 4% of all manufacturing jobs, but it plays an integral role in process development and improvement for the sector.

Engineering represents approximately 1,000 jobs across the Three Rivers Region and is expected to increase by nearly 200 jobs in the next five years.

Engineering occupations (except for technicians) require a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree and pay a premium wage when compared to other manufacturing occupations.

Maintenance Work

Maintenance occupations represent a much smaller, but important piece of the manufacturing workforce. These occupations represent more than 3,100 jobs in the Three Rivers Region, both in manufacturing and related sectors. Nearly 400 new jobs will be created in the targeted maintenance occupations over the next five years.

Most all maintenance occupations require a post-secondary certificate, except for Supervisors.

Median wage levels range from $16.15-$27.03 depending upon the area and level of specialty.

Machinery Gears

The level and complexity of machinery in manufacturing has increased over the years with the rising role of technology and automation. As such, machinery occupations make up the second largest target occupation cluster for the Three Rivers manufacturing sector.

Machinery occupations represent more than 3,700 workers in both manufacturing and other related sectors are expected to add nearly 430 jobs in the next five years.

Most of these occupations require a post-secondary certificate and the average median wage range for machinery Occupations is $15.73.

Assembly Line

Assembly represents the largest target occupation in the Three Rivers Region, comprising approximately 9,330 workers in both manufacturing and other related sectors.

The education level required for these occupations are some of the lowest in manufacturing, with a majority of occupations requiring only a high school diploma.

Median wages range from $10.29-$22.32 depending on the level of education required and the sophistication of the product being assembled.

In total, assembly occupations are expected to add more than 1,500 jobs in the next five years.
